About the artist
Andreas Hohwü was born in Gråsten on the German/Danish border as the son of clockmaker Thomas Howhü. He later became the apprentice of the famous Dutch clockmaker Hendrik Johan Kessels (1781-1849) in Hamburg. Following that he moved to Paris to work for the watchmaker Louis Breguet (1804-1883) until 1840 when he left for Amsterdam to start his own business. He manufactured pendulum clocks and... He manufactured pendulum clocks and chronometer timepieces and was awarded two Dutch honorary titles for his workshop practices.
