- About the artist
Katharina Hinsberg was born in 1967 in Karlsruhe, Germany, but lives and works in Düsseldorf. She currently teaches at the Saar College of Fine Arts in Saarbrücken but studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, France, herself. She has taken part in numerous group- and solo-exhibitions in and outside of Europe.
Katharina Hinsberg started her career in stage design but is mostly recalled for her graphic style of drawing, through which she addresses questions of all that drawing can be. Deconstruction and transformative capacity form concepts of great importance in her work; arousing inevitable, philosophical questions such as ‘how does a line arise exactly’, and ‘where does a line begin or end?’From 1987 to 1989 Hinsberg worked at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart before she began studying Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1989. From 1990 to 1993 she studied Fine Arts at the College of Fine Arts Dresden, from 1993 to 1995 sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux Arts Bordeaux. From 2003 to 2009 Katharina Hinsberg was a professor of drawing at the University of the Arts Bremen. Since 2011 Katharina has been a Professor of Conceptual Painting at HbK Saar. Katharina Hinsberg is a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund.
Work
Hinsberg works above all with drawings and their effect on the room. She not only paints but also works with the means of installation and sculpture, such as silhouettes she hangs in the room. The central design element is usually the line.
