She studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and specialized in glassblowing, an art form in which she could combine her passion for shape, color and light.

After her education, Smit worked in various studios in Europe, including renowned glass studios in Sweden and the Czech Republic, where she refined her technique and developed her own style. In 1995, she established her own glass studio in rural Loosdrecht, where she has been working on unique artworks and design objects ever since.

Smit draws her inspiration from nature, particularly the dynamics of wind, water and light.
