- About the artist
Interaction, humour and stillness. Bronze statues that are moving or cheerful. The human figures with the characteristic long legs and the green or reddish-brown patina. Cher Mattijssen (Delft 1961) has a style of his own, often moving.
Cher models in wax, usually without a real preconceived plan. She searches for a person or animal with a story and a personality. While working, for example, the Chatty ladies, the Girl with new shoes and the Dachshund on the far too high chair arise.
For assignments she works according to a plan. The contact with the client in advance is important. The reason for the assignment is a source of inspiration for Cher and the basis for a successful design. After she had been trained by artist Jaap Hartman, Cher started to improve her skills. Since 2006 she has been making bronze sculptures, free and commissioned. She exhibits at leading galleries and at trade fairs in the Netherlands and Belgium. Her work now finds a new home far beyond the country's borders.
