- About the artist
Four years after Pieter Lemmens (Amsterdam 1965) announced his imaginary solo exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam by means of a major poster campaign, ironic, socially critical works by this elusive artist are now on display and avilable. Lemmens' flexible canvasses consist largely of written text. With his texts, the artist reflects the position of ideology, religion, politics, art and economics occupy in society. The materiality of the canvas, paint and epoxy give Lemmens' work an unexpected but overwhelming aesthetic quality.
