- About the artist
Terhi Tolvanen was born in 1968 in Helsinki, Finland. Tolvanen trained as a silver smith at the Lahti Design Institute in Lahti from 1989-1993 before attending the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, Netherlands to become a jewellery designer. After this she enrolled in the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam from 1997-1999 for applied arts.
Her contemporary jewelley is one-of-a-kind using unconventional materials, sulptural forms and fine textures. Her love for nature can be found in every piece through her choice of materials and colours. She wants her jewellery to be both practical and avant garde. Tolvanen was an artist in residence of the Palanga Ambermuseum (2001-2002) in Litauen en the Europees Keramisch Werkcentrum (2006) in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
Tolvanen’s work is featured in many public collections including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the European Ceramics Work Center, the Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim, Germany, the Gintaro Museum inLithuania, the Koch Collection in Basel and the Coda Museum in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.
