    VERY RARE

    PIEDFORT

During the provincial period, special editions were sometimes made of regular coins in the Netherlands. This could be in gold, for example, but also in a heavier (piedfort) weight. Usually a coin was struck at double weight, but very occasionally also at three or four times the weight. The special coins were given as presents or as New Year's gifts. The editions of these piedfort pieces were always very small and as such these pieces are very rare and nowadays sought after collector's items.

•“After ….” In their opinion a copy (of any date) of a work of the artist

•“Signed…”, “Dated….” or “Inscribed” In their opinion the work has been signed/dated/inscribed by the artist. The addition of a question mark indicates an element of doubt
