  Pour l'artiste James Chiew, rien n'arrive par hasard. Toutes ses expressions créatives découlent de son énorme envie d'expérimentation et d'innovation. Dans ses œuvres polyvalentes aux techniques mixtes, l'autodidacte d'origine singapourienne repousse toujours les limites. Cela se reflète dans ses idées et le choix des matériaux. De manière idiosyncratique et originale, James combine des images et des objets (photographiques) avec différents matériaux, tels que le bois, le métal, la peinture acrylique, l'époxy et tout ce qui est possible.

  Ce faisant, il mélange des techniques graphiques modernes avec des méthodes classiques et des matériaux analogues.
  James Chiew : « L'ère numérique offre des opportunités sans précédent. J'aime expérimenter, car je suis toujours à la recherche de nouveaux angles. Le défi pour moi est d'essayer de réaliser l'impossible.

  Je veux rendre les choses plus belles. Cela commence souvent dans mon environnement immédiat. Des objets du quotidien à la maison et en studio que j'essaie de montrer d'une manière particulière. En proxénète des objets, je fais en sorte que les gens les regardent différemment et pensent à eux. Ses oeuvres d'art ont toujours beaucoup de profondeur : au propre comme au figuré on découvre plusieurs couches dans ses oeuvres.

  La photographie n'a été la base de James Chiew que pendant quelques années et s'est avérée être le début de sa nouvelle période. L'appareil photo et le matériel photo lui offrent des perspectives sans précédent, qui ont immédiatement abouti à son travail le plus reconnu à ce jour : Beatrix 3-D. En 2013, il a été invité à l'exposition 'Beeld van Beatrix' au Paleis Het Loo et au Paleis Soestdijk en l'honneur du 75e anniversaire de Beatrix.
