Jan Noyons (1918, Utrecht – 1982, Utrecht) was a goldsmith, silversmith and artist, who lived and worked in Utrecht. Since 1945 he had his own studio at the Biltstraat. In the 1950s and at the beginning of the 1960s Noyons became known for his Roman-Catholic altar plates. Furthermore, he designed and created bishop’s crosiers, pectoral crosses and rings. From the mid-60s he received fewer orders from the church. Therefore Noyons applied himself increasingly to profane objects, such as chains of office, pennies, dinnerware, chess sets and perfume bottles, but especially he concentrated on colourful jewellery. In 1964, Noyons opened a gallery in Utrecht, where a great number of celebrated sculptors and penny artists exhibited their works. To mention just a few: Pieter d’Hont, Theo van de Vathorst, Paul Grégoire, Ruth Brouwer, Frank Letterie, Wilfried Put, Piet Esser, Geer Steyn en Lucie Nijland.
