- About the artist
Jan Engelchor (1920, Amsterdam – 1976, Bussum) was a Dutch painter and sculptor, who was active in Amsterdam and in Huizen. He was educated at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) Amsterdam. In 1946, he was awarded the Cohen Gosschalk Prize. In 1947, he married the sculptor Margot Hudig-Heldring. Engelchor practiced various genres: figures, military, horses, insects. He also created abstract works. A number of his monumental sculptures and statues were given an important destination in the Netherlands.
