About the artist
Marten Klompien (1917-1996) was a Dutch painter, draftsman and graphic artist, best known for his paintings and prints of landscapes and still lifes. Klompien was born in Groningen and developed an interest in art at a young age. His work is often associated with the tradition of Northern Dutch realism, with influences from artists such as Henk Helmantel and the members of the Groninger Ploeg, although he himself was not a member of this group.
Klompien was known for his meticulous observation of nature and his attention to detail. His landscapes and still lifes show a strong connection with the surroundings of Groningen and Drenthe. He worked with oil paint, watercolor and pencil and developed his own style that radiates peace and harmony.
In addition to his artistic career, Klompien was also active as a teacher and inspired many young artists. His works are included in various collections, both private and public, and are still valued for their timeless beauty and craftsmanship.
