- About the artist
Marc Podawczyk (b. 1971, Dortmund, Germany) is a German painter who studied at the art academies in Münster and Düsseldorf, where he eventually became a master-class student. He currently lives and works in Dortmund.
Podawczyk's artistic journey revolves around a relentless quest to express his authentic self through painting. In earlier years, his work was defined by computer-generated forms and structured color strips, as seen in his V-MD X series and Stripes. However, his recent works reflect a dramatic shift, as he embraces a liberated, spontaneous approach to painting.
His latest creations are marked by a richly layered, dynamic application of color, producing surreal visual spaces that evoke elements of nature. Intuition and improvisation drive his creative process, resulting in a raw, fast-paced style where breaks, distortions, and abrupt transitions contribute to the vividness of his work. These paintings offer a dreamlike quality, constantly shifting and transforming as if in flux. The boundaries between the viewer’s perception and the artist’s internal vision blur, creating a unique interplay between optical immediacy and reflective distance. This ephemeral quality, where images surface and fade like fleeting dreams, is encapsulated in his series Dreamer (DRMR).
