The Millen House

  • Sobre arte
André van der Vossen (1893–1963) created this Untitled paper collage in the mid-20th century, reflecting his modernist approach to abstraction. The artwork, measuring 32.0 x 125.0 cm, features a striking composition of intersecting black linear forms layered over muted pinks, soft grays, and vibrant orange and yellow tones. These elements create a compelling tension between structure and fluidity, invoking the balance of geometry and organic expression.Signed in pencil as “André van der Vossen” below the work, this piece demonstrates the artist’s deep engagement with modernist aesthetics, resonating with influences from De Stijl and Constructivism. The vivid orange and yellow evoke a warm, emotive energy, while the layered textures of the collage material add a tactile quality to the composition.Framed in a simple wooden frame, this work showcases Van der Vossen’s ability to blend color, form, and material into a harmonious yet dynamic whole. A unique example of mid-20th-century abstraction, this piece aligns Van der Vossen’s legacy with contemporaries such as Jean Arp and Sonia Delaunay. further highlighting his contribution to the Dutch modernist movement.
