    Oil on panel, signed.
    Jean Pezous is a French painter.
    He was born in Toulon, France in March of 1815. He studied with Senequier, who taught at the nautical school. He then went to Paris and studied under Orsel. He lived for a time at Bondy (Seine-St-Denis) and from 1846 to 1880 exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon. Pezous produced a large number of small paintings on a variety of different subjects, often introducing many figures. (Source: Benezit: Dictionary of Artists, vol. 10, p. 1299)
    Work of Pezous is Pezous work is included in collections of the Hist. Carnavalet Museum in Paris, the Museum of Fine Arts in Toulon and the museum of Carpentras (Provence, France)
  • Over kunstenaar
    Jean Pezous was born in 1815 in France, into a modest family. In 1830 Pezous applied at the l'Ecole de Dessin de Toulon and was taken under the wings of Bernard Sénéguier. After his parents passed away, Pezous moved to Paris where he applied at the l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He was often commissioned to decorate the insides of public places as various churches in Paris, but cafe's and hotels as well. The artist passed away in 1885.
